Take a break from reading his stuff. He makes good points but you can't be permanently surrounded by negativity (which inevitably he has; even if he gushes, he's still judging) if you want to produce something. Go read books and experience them for yourself and try to figure out what makes them work for you in terms of writing, plot, etc. And remember that nothing comes out right the first time, and that's ok :I
