what is wrong with jelly ones? They are lot more comfortable and gentle.

I don't trust them due to their porosity. I don't feel that you can ever sufficiently clean them.

There has also been some talk about jelly dildos containing chemicals that are banned in children's toys. Pure silicone is safe, tho, and can be sterilized by boiling.

Well, there's always silicone. It's not as soft as jelly, but it's softer than plastic, metal, and glass.

The jelly probably won't give you any horrible diseases or anything unless you're using compost tea as lube or something.

Why would you need to sterilize them if you're the only one using them, though? I get it if you're using them with a partner, but wouldn't a jelly be okay if it's just for personal use?

it's basically a matter of what you do with it, if it's just you using it. you wouldn't want to use the same dildo in your ass as you do in your mouth/vag if you can't sterilize the dildo, in other words.

Dunno about sterilization, but jelly is porous and things get stuck in the material that don't come away just by washing it.

microbial growth occurs with trace material that just isn't caught in regular cleaning, microbial growth gets shoved somewhere hot, damp, and full of nutritious cells. Microbial growth says "hello darling", one week later user says "F@&K!!! that itches and looks gross". Doctor says "hello medical expenses".

Big medicine supports vaginal microbes and encourages jelly dildo use, because they are even bigger dicks.

Depends on how you use it. Like I said above, it's unlikely that your dildo will become a vehicle for horrible things even if it's porous but if you're fiddling around with it with your hands and sticking it in a variety of orifices, things can get unpleasant. And smelly.

Not to mention, jelly doesn't last nearly as long as most other materials. It even starts to look nasty after a while. I'd much prefer pristine glass or silicone.

I hadn't even thought about the germs on your hands; that probably wouldn't go too well in a warm damp place. Also I had completely forgotten that there were glass dildoes out there. maybe I've just been spoiled by silicone, but glass seems like it'd be so...stiff. Or cold.

That's what I thought too. I was wrong :)

Glass is going to be cold by default (and some people are into that sort of thing :) ), but it also retains temperatures easily, which is usually done by dipping it into some hot water for a minute or so.

The stiff part is definitely true, though.

Germs. You can't sterilize jelly.

If you were going to use it once. Go for it. But after that... ewww.

Nothing is wrong with them. There are products out there to clean them properly. *eyeroll*
