I don't know what exactly happened to you, but I'm sorry nonetheless. Sometimes things happen in RL that color your perception of characters/pairings; there's no shame in that. Once you've distanced yourself from the pain a bit, perhaps you can try to like them again... I mean, Malik did readily forgive Altaïr as soon as the latter realized what an ass he'd been.

...Altair got his brother murdered and caused him to lose his arm (and thus have to stop being a proper assassin, which had basically been his whole life) simply because he felt like being a dick and showing off. If anything Malik forgiving him was far more generous than Altair deserved.

For real. "Holding a grudge" suggests an immature and disproportionate response by the person who has been wronged.

OP must have a very different interpretation of the characters and their motivations than I do...

And Malik didn't just 'forgive him', anyway. He redeemed himself. Malik even says that he won't forgive Altair because Altair's not the person then that he is now.

The words are a little garbled so I can't even tell exactly what the OP is saying, but it is definitely all on Altair.

Exactly. Maybe that's what confused the OP. Malik wasn't refusing to forgive Altair- he was saying that Altair didn't need to apologize. Real forgiveness can't be dependent on receiving an apology and, like you said, it's all about Altair's redemption. Malik was way ahead of him on that one.

Um... Malik would have been well within his rights to never forgive Altair, since Altair basically destroyed what his life had been up to that point.

But he didn't. Sounds like you're just mad that people sometimes aren't as generous with forgiveness as Malik is.

THIS.Some people can forgive horrible stuff, and some never forgive you for something minor...but forgiveness is a real thing.

Unless I'm completely misreading OP's secret, OP went through the following:

* OP was badly hurt by a mistake made by another person (call him "B" to OP's "A".)
* B tried hard to apologize for his mistake.
* A would not forgive B because A had been so badly affected, even though A knew it was the result of carelessness, not an intent to hurt.
* B could not deal with the continuing guilt he felt from his mistake and having all his attempts to apologize rejected.
* B attempted suicide.

I thought it was obvious that OP was mad at people who could not be generous with forgiveness. I also thought it was obvious that OP was the person at whom OP was most mad at for this. Did you miss this in the secret, or did you read it as something completely different?

Thank you for understanding.

This guy killed himself because we couldn't get over something he didn't even mean to do. Yes, he messed up, and yes, he almost killed me, but I could have at least listen to him. He went to see all of us at the hospital, he tried to apologize but what did i do? I screamed at him and told him to never speak to me again. I didn't realize that he was hurting as much as I was. I could have been there for him when he was hurting, but instead I ignored our 10 years of friendship and never gave him a chance. I couldn't even go to his funeral, we were asked to leave.

I know Malik forgave Altair, but his initial reaction is what I can't stand, because I see myself there, and I know one of the results to that behavior. I think its easier to hate a fictional character than myself, because although Im not to fond of me right now, I know for a fact that he wouldn't want me like this

YMMV, but Kadar died and Malik lost his arm. I wouldn't exactly consider it a 'stupid grudge.'
