Did anyone else like her because she was kind of unpleasant, at least until she actively started spending time with Hiccup? I liked the fact that she was good at kicking ass and being awesome, but was also kind of a jerk, and got jealous of Hiccup when he started upstaging her.

And I like that she actively tried to figure out what Hiccup was up to. That made her an interesting character, to me.

And I don't think the Loser Guy/Awesome Girl problem applies here because Hiccup wasn't a loser. He was actively awesome at inventing things, the problem was that the vikings weren't interested in that stuff. Hell, the whole movie starts because he was able to do something that no other viking had been able to do: capture a Night Fury.

Man, I love this movie. And I think the romance is cute, and that they combine to make an awesome power couple.

But I might be alone on this, here?

Definitely not alone, anon! I'm hoping she doesn't lose her fire in the coming TV series and sequel.

This so much! To go even further, I think they complement each other very well - he allows her to get in touch with her more sensitive side, which she's felt the need to suppress because of constant threat of dragons, while she bolsters his confidence.
