1.) Chill out.
2.) You CAN'T transfer over Pokemon from past games UNTIL you beat the main story. No, seriously, you can't. You can only transfer over old Pokemon once you get the National Dex, which you do not get until the events at the Pokemon League.
So . . . Even if people DID want old Pokemon, that would be impossible to do, which brings me to number three . . .

(Anonymous) 2011-03-21 05:25 am (UTC)(link)i mean the people who get maybe far enough to trade (i think that's like the first badge?) and then get on communities/messageboards/places and start begging people to trade them eggs of starters or level ones of and actually say stuff like "i can't finish the game without them." i actually saw someone say they had to have a sneasel in their party for the rest of the game or they wouldn't be able to play. hence the secret.
don't get me wrong, i miss a lot of my faves, but i'm trying to keep to the spirit of a whole new region with whole new pokemon and see what i can do to change instead of relying on the same old thing every generation.

People might not understand that since I think it was different in other games, but yeah, you have to have the National Dex first or it won't work. Trust me, I tried (or, well, my friend tried; I like a lot of the new Pokemon, but he wanted me to help him trade Pokemon from HeartGold to his White game, and it would not let him do it -- and no, they weren't holding any items/didn't know any HM moves/etc).

That was the error. Those games can't trade back and forth. You can only transfer from one to the other. Black and white are trade in exclusive.
ETA: But If you port up from HG to, say White, then you can trade em to Gen 5 games all the live long day.

So if you just got the game but your friend already beat it, you can get them to catch you Pokemon from after the main story, or give you their old Pokemon from other games (or the spawn of their other Pokemon, if they breed them.) What the OP is describing is possible (and annoying, if you're the one that beat the game using just Unova Pokemon and your friends are bugging you to give them your Pokemon.)
