I liked Astrid a lot. I never took the ship seriously, and I felt like the story didn't take it seriously either. They're young teenagers. Of course she's going to get a crush after going on the super awesome pretty dragon ride. Of course their hormones are going to get confused with feelings of newfound friendship. It happens. It made sense. I never saw it as TRUE LOVE, and I don't believe the movie treated it as such. It's just the fandom that made a big deal out of it.

Granted, I think the "romance" was unnecessary and could have been executed better (WHY did they delete that scene?). And I wish Astrid had kept her name from the books (pretty sure she was based on Camicazi) because her being the only one with an actual name and not a ridiculous Viking name makes it obvious she's the Designated Love Interest. Girl got dealt a bad hand.

Ah, well. I ship her with Ruffnut anyway. XD
