Seriously. Besides, they've actually fixed one of the major problems of Shinkenger, so even if I didn't already not give a flying fuck that it's not Shinken-to-a-T, I'd be pleased.

A SHOW CAN BE NOT THE SHOW YOU WANT AND STILL BE A GOOD SHOW. I wish more of PR fandom understood this.

Samurai has put enough information out there for a viewer to feel confident that there is a reason (and, if they pay enough attention, perhaps figure out the reason) for Xandred just sticking around in the Sanzu and not really doing anything, despite being the main villain.

Shinkenger gave absolutely no sign whatsoever that the writers definitely had an explanation for Doukouku not doing anything, until he finally did something [mumble] episodes in. It's not a huge problem, but leaving your audience to wonder why the Big Bad isn't really either is poor form.

the reason i've stopped watching is not because it isn't shinkenger to a t. i'm glad for that. or i would be, if i didn't feel it wasn't trying to be and not doing it particularly well.

it's not bad, but it's the same issue i had with jungle fury - it felt too much like i was watching the same thing, with the really hard-hitting and interesting bits taken out. ymmv though, and i'm glad so many people ARE enjoying it.

Thank you, finally someone rational in this discussion. It's trying to be Shinkenger without any of the same context or backstory that Shinkenger has. Having issues with the show's main problem -- which is a very large problem for anybody who has standards -- doesn't make you a hater. It's great that PR is back, but that doesn't exempt it from having people complain about how poorly it's being adapted.

I'm kind of curious where you're getting the notion that the fandom is complaining that it's "not Shinkenger-to-a-T," because most of what I've seen is people complaining that it is Shinkenger-to-a-T. While I'm still watching Samurai, and while I've only seen a scant handful of Shinkenger episodes, I can't help but find it does skew a little too close to the sentai, almost scene-for-scene in many places, and it's a bit jarring at times, even for the episodes where I haven't seen the sentai equivalent.

Regardless, I'm going to give it a chance yet. Besides, I like Mike too much to give up on the show. He endeared me to him in the very first episode, and he's only gotten better.

I can understand people not liking Samurai for not being more like RPM, or too much like the early seasons of Power Rangers, in that those have some sort of connection with reality as we know it.

But the idea that someone wouldn't like Samurai for NOT being Shinkenger to a T? That is just pure madness; thus far, Power Rangers Samurai has been so faithful to Shinkenger that it actually credits the Japanese writers of the episodes that they've painstakingly recreated scene-for-scene, line-for-line at times. The only difference between the two is that the one has the Kuroko, and the other has Bulk and Spike.

Re: your first point: I always find that the seasons I like the least tend to follow the seasons I liked the most.

TL;DR - sorry, guys, but I think it's awful. I'm glad someone likes it, though. :)

I actually had a number of issues with the pilot (which is all I've seen), none of which involved it not being Shinkenger or it being too much like MMPR or it not being RPM.

I wanted the main characters to all die less than a minute in for being so bloody stupid. Inconsistent and completely stupid. By the end of the episode, I wanted them to die slowly and painfully.

The Bulk and Spike scene felt forced and didn't connect to anything else (again, in the pilot, which is all I've seen). It was rehashing the same old joke that wasn't really funny the first hundred times around, and for no particularly good reason. (Although I really wanted Spike's mother to be Kimberly.)

I did rather like the villains, though. They were fun, and funny (puns! puns are great). Not enough, though, to make me want to see any more of the show. Which I regret, because I've liked several variations of it and of sentai for YEARS.
