I totally adored Martha and preferred her to Rose, actually. The only thing I disliked about Martha was how quickly she fell for the Doctor, and how she stuck with that unrequited love even when it was obviously not going to be more. It just seemed so awkward for the Doctor, who really couldn't give her more than friendship and a smooth operator he is not. :B

To be fair, if someone showed me such amazing things I probably would fall a little too, but Martha seemed more sensible than that. At the same time, I like that she wasn't all sensible and perfect, it makes her more relatable... but the pining was a little awkward to watch for both parties involved.

I loved it when she stood up for herself and demanded something better, though. I just don't understand how she went from being engaged to one doctor to being married to Mickey, I hope they explain that to me in later episodes although I'm really not expecting it at this point.

tl;dr I agree OP, Martha is a BAMF.

My theory about why Martha was engaged with Mickey is she probably sought out trouble (like Mary Jane does) and the doctor she was engaged to probably didn't care for it. Maybe he wanted to move on from it, settle down and start a family, but Martha would keep disappearing to fight aliens. He probably got fed up with it and left or she got tired of listening to him complain and left. Then she met Mickey while on one of her adventures and they hit it off. That's what I think happened. :P
