Honestly I'm amazed people are hating on Kat. I emphasize a lot with how Annie is acting in this current chapter (I'm always so worried when friends are upset with me and become puppy-like in my affections trying to patch things up), but I absolutely understand how Kat is acting as well. Yes, Annie did go through a very traumatic experience, and she deserves sympathy for that, but Kat had her best friend violently leave their home and disappear into an area know to be extremely dangerous and decide to stay with a god with a questionable agenda, rather than talk to her, her best friend and close confidant for a the majority of her emotions and heartaches, and leave her in the dark about what hurt her so badly (not to mention making her helpless to comfort her when she finally found out from someone else) or if she's doing well emotionally as time goes on or if she's even alive for several months. And then Annie comes back and expects her to be all smiles because YAAAAAAY I WENT ON A SOULSEARCHING EXCUSION AND NOW I'M ALL BETTER AND SHE'LL BE MY BEST FRIEND JUST LIKE BEFORE. No matter how close a friend was to me, and no matter how devastating the event that made them decide to run off, I'd be utterly furious if they disappeared for months and could have been dead for all I knew and then returned all smiles and acted as though nothing had happened after I'd been worrying about them for so long. Honestly I'm very proud of Kat, for having let go of any/all anger she may have had directed at Annie and now simply being disappointed.

That sums it up pretty well. And also the bit where you said that Kat wasn't even able to comfort Annie after finding out what had happened. Neither Kat's negative or positive emotions had a chance to come out; it's no wonder she was feeling a mess.

Kat was actually pretty mature in being able to lay out her emotions to Annie straightforwardly. I don't think she approached it very well, but she was trying to be reasonable.
