it seemed more to me like the OP meant if he was ever in a situation where he wanted to screw a dude, he wouldn't not-do it just because it wasn't the societal norm.

just how the wording came off to me, though, ymmv.

I'm hoping that's what the OP meant. But the way the secret is actually worded, it proposes that sexuality is part and parcel of a conscious -- and in this case evil -- moral choice. Nobody should have to explain what's wrong with that picture.

no, there's a whole hell of a lot wrong with that, i agree. i sure hope that's not what the OP meant, because ... yeah. bad implications.

but i guess i'm reading it pretty optimistically, and hoping they just used some unfortunate wording somewhere in there.

Dude, my thoughts exactly when I read the secret. Like, how in the world would your opinion on "societal norms" affect your sexuality?

It doesn't help that that very assumption is part of the homophobia spouted by the religious right every time you turn around. Didn't you know? It's a choice! People choose to be gay because they're totally on to destroy society from the inside out by attacking the basic family unit!

Sorry, I reread my secret once it was posted and realized how badly I'd worded it. I was feeling hotheaded while I wrote the secret after a friend of mine got lambasted on a popular Batman forum for even daring to imply the Joker could be anything other than straight. Because killing, maiming and committing crimes is A-OK in the fandom's eyes, but homosexuality? Noooo, that's just wrong. *rolls eyes*

So I certainly didn't mean to imply that sexuality is a choice, or that the Joker is a "deviant" therefore he must be gay. Rather, I meant to say that the Joker's brain is so far out of the box, sexuality wouldn't even be something he'd consider. Unless he was using it against someone for the lulz or to prove a point (e.g. grabbing Batman's ass in Arkham Asylum comic, making sexual comments towards Bats to freak him out, what he did to Harley, etc).
But he certainly wouldn't just stick to people of a certain gender. Hell, he would probably go out of his way not to, just so he can freak people out and keep them on their toes. (and well, in he comics he does just that.)

The secret itself was more of a direct refute to the fans who basically said that there's no-way-hosey the Joker could be anything but straight because homos are icky and the Joker's not icky. (Ugh, sometimes I hate fandom.)
