See, I have no issue with her identifying as a lesbian. I really don't! I'll call her gay all day long. This doesn't upset me.

What upsets me is when she catches any hint or implication or suggestion that she may be at all straight (even just a little bi), that she may have ANY feelings for ANY male character again, if ever any male character flirts even a little, it's "HEY BACK OFF I'M GAY NOW GAWD GUYS." Because while she may have found a better path, while she may be happier with women now that she's discovered this possibility, WHATEVER THE CASE MAY BE, what she had with Oz was real. Xander can be written off as a childhood crush and puppy love, platonic feelings confused for love, whatever. But Oz was not. So if she denies even the slightest remaining hint of heterosexual inclinations she has, then I get mad at HER.

Yeah, okay. TL;DR: Willow, you don't HATE cock, you just don't PREFER it. Get over yourself.

I get that, but at the same time, I see why she'd do it. I mean, she--even fictionally--lives in a society that constantly assumes that she's heterosexual until proven otherwise. At least, I assume this, because that's how our society operates; you have to announce non-heterosexual identity and then even sometimes you are questioned about it (especially with bisexual identity), and especially with women's personal sexual identification there are a lot of men that don't think a woman is being serious when she says "no, I like women" (think about the trope of the creepy guy going, "oh, you're a lesbian couple? do you like threesomes? hurrhurrhurr", because ugh that shit happens). Or worse, completely don't respect her right to make that determination.

It's not necessarily the honest or the best response to insist monosexuality, but it's a defense mechanism and I don't get mad at her for it. (It'd be hypocritical; I did similar things when I was younger, sillier, and far less confident in my ability to assert myself.)

See, I can even understand when she does that around strangers or people she doesn't know as well, but she tends to be pretty overly-defensive with Buffy and Xander, too. And maybe I'm just not understanding her frame of mind as well, but I feel like she should realize that they're fine with all of it.
