For Woody Allen, meh, it was pretty fucked up with all the things that ensued, but at the end of the day, he was willing to throw his hands up in the air and said, "This is who I am and if you have a problem with it, it is YOUR problem, not mine."

Roman Polanski, on the other hand, took advantage of a young girl by using his status as a big movie director. He also ran off to France before he could put through the justice system. He still can't come on US soil for running away from the law. Great director or not, he broke the law and took off before he could be brought to justice. He is nothing more but a criminal in my eyes and it does disgust me when people defend him.

I'm not saying that Roman Polanski isn't s scumbag, but you're a little bit wrong. He didn't leave "before he could be brought to justice". He pleaded guilty and did 42 days of psych evaluation, after which he expected to receive probation. When the judge changed his mind and wanted to put Polaski in jail, THAT'S when he ran away.

If he thought he deserved probation after 42 days of "evaluation" for raping a child then he is a fucking idiot. The judge/prosecutor were also fucking idiots for thinking for a second that's an acceptable punishment.

He still fled the jurisdiction before he could be punished for something he admitted doing. No amount of mincing makes that ok.

Er, wouldn't the "brought to justice" in this case be whatever the fuck the judge warranted his punishment should be for raping a child?

If you go to trial, are sentenced to prison, and then escape before you can serve that sentence...you are a fugitive. You are currently breaking the law, because the law says you should go to prison, and you decided that you didn't feel like it.

Just because he didn't expect it doesn't mean that it's a-okay for him to run-off, and essentially get off scot-free. (Sure, he's a fugitive, but he's still making movies and the big bucks so, you know, not really comparable to serving prison time).
