Regardless, that book made me so sad as a kid. And then I ruined the nostalgia sadness by reading it as an adult. Apparently 22 year old me doesn't find it as terrible as kid!me. Sad, yes, but not the all encompassing depression I remember.

Stuffed animals don't become real until you let them go, silly. The book was meant to make children feel better about tossing out their old, worn-out toys, or giving their toys away after outgrowing them.

I cried every time I read that book when I was young. Then, a month ago, I read it again to see if it was just as good as I remembered. I bawled at the ending. :( This is a really sweet secret though.
