Big Homestuck fan but not in the fandom, so I was previously unaware of this - and I don't generally care for trans fic (I get all irrationally frustrated at reading characters getting what I can't - yet - have), but the idea of DAVE STRIDER, BADASS TRANS MAN just made me grin. KICK THAT DYSPHORIA IN THE ASS, BRO.

It's a shame my knee-jerk reaction to that art is "oh god, no, Dave, don't bind with bandages, you'll fuck up your back!" (Tried that when I was younger. Made my ribs hurt like fuck.) I really hope badly-researched binding isn't going to become as ubiquitous in fandom as badly-researched lube.

Ahahah, I had the same first reaction. "Oh no no no, that's going to really kill down the road. There are better ways to bind!"

Could you please tell me about the correct way to bind? I've got D-cups to hide and they hurt a lot whenever I try.

(Anonymous) 2011-04-06 08:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Professionally made binders are expensive, but less hellish on the bones. Underworks sell a fairly good range and ship globally (I would personally recommend you buy the half-length rather than the full-length vests, as the latter really dig into your hips). I've also heard good things about T-Kingdom, though never used them.

Tbh, though, nothing binds perfectly; I'm only a B cup and nothing gets me flat enough that it's unnoticeable, and while I feel fine when I'm actually binding, it does ache when you take it off.

Still vastly better than bandages, though. Bandages can cause permanent health problems, and they're not breathable so you'll sweat up a storm.

T-Kingdom is amazing. I'm not trans or anything like that, but I use them for cosplay and because I feel uncomfortable having a chest in general so occasionally I just decide "okay, today I'll be flat." And they are a GODSEND. Fucking bandages suck.

I am a B-cup and getting a medium "sports-bra" styled one pretty much gets me as flat as possible. The only way you can tell is if I'm wearing something completely skin-tight. Which I never do anyway. Large would probably work for C and D cup. Though an X-Large may be more comfortable for D, I wouldn't know. It's probably not very possible to get the larger cup sizes entirely flat though, no matter what. Unfortunate but true.

If you don't mind me asking, which 'sports-bra' style model do you have? I've been looking to get one there in that style as well so I'm curious as to how comfortable they are.

[identity profile] cheshirecgrin.livejournal.com 2011-04-07 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
The M801 one.
This one. (http://www.t-kingdom.com/shopping/english/page801_english.shtml)

Augh, it didn't post my whole comment!

Anyway, I tried with the Large size first which worked fine but was a bit loose, so I got the Medium as well which is tighter but not restrictively so. It's pretty comfy, though it will need re-adjusting every once in a while during the day. I'm thinking of trying the longer models once I get the money to buy another, it may mean less re-adjusting. But yeah, they're nice. And very breathable. I've worn them to Otakon, and the Maryland summer can be quite stiflingly humid, but I wasn't overly uncomfortable despite the extra layer.

Oh, that's the one I was looking at! Do you find the zipper visible under clothing at all? Thanks for such a thorough answer, btw :)

[identity profile] cheshirecgrin.livejournal.com 2011-04-07 03:05 am (UTC)(link)
In the tighter shirts it can be a little visible, but most things with a little bit of extra room are usually fine. The handle thing on the zipper is pretty small.

Also, no problem!

(Anonymous) 2011-04-07 04:18 am (UTC)(link)
Okay, cool. Thanks again!

I don't know if this will be helpful to you, but I'm leaving it here just in case: http://goldengray.tumblr.com/post/4260834534/help-binding-101-for-big-chests

Best of luck in finding a way that's comfortable for you and doesn't hurt your back! :D

I have a couple from here, http://www.t-kingdom.com/ and they're pretty comfy. But, I'm, like, an A- cup, so I can't relate much to binding pain :(
