It's okay OP. Not everyone in fandom bites really, but sometimes things can get incredible wanky. I've been sucked into wank dumbass actions myself too and sometimes people forget fandom is meant to be fun.

But no matter what the fandom it's likely you'll find -some- cool people to hang with if it's big enough.

The Reborn fandom is my favorite ever because there is like, no wank. There have been maybe two arguments on the LJ comm in three, four years, and neither really approached "wank" proportions. I am really surprised that you had to leave it!

Then I realised it's better to stick to your own corner of the sandbox. And sit back and laugh when all the other kids start kicking sand in each others' eyes.

I've found that you can do that even if you get a little closer to the centre of the sandbox. It's more a matter of mindset than anything else (unless you become THE BNF, I guess).

Fandom manual:

1. Be polite.
2. Ignore the trolls.
3. Ignore the flamebait.
4. If you're upset, don't jump into the fray. Calm down. Go do something else and come back when your head is cool again.
5. Don't pick sides; when you lose it ruins the fandom for you, and when you win it ruins the fandom for the others.
6. If you absolutely must pick a side, pick the side of common sense and empathy.
