I'm about the same as you - usually I'd have just plainly dismissed that movie as junk.
But then, it was a lonely night in the cinema, I just wanted to see any film - und then, well I took the eagle, because hey, Jamie Bell.


And than WHAM, after the film, I just wanted to see it again and again. I wanted to share the love. Not really for it's artistic merit - good god, it has flaws - but for the happy feeling it spread all through my body

OP might also want to check out the book (which actually hangs together far well in terms of plot, characterization, and pacing, although it is quite different), as well as the rest of Rosemary Sutcliff's oeuvre, especially Frontier Wolf. :D

Argh, I can't type. The book has a different tone, and the Marcus-Esca relationship in particular is never actual hostile, but it does a lot of things considerably better (I am in a minority of Sutcliff fans, I think, for really strongly preferring her later work, though).

Haven't seen it yet, but it's one of the (VERY) few movies that I'm willing to sit through Channing Tatum to see. (Please tell me in this one he's at least somewhat likable!)

I haven't seen very many of his movies, but he did a good job, even if he was a bit sappy at parts... Still loved it.

Um, well, he's a kind of asshole Roman soldier (his book counterpart is rather less of an ass), but sort of weirdly endearing, like a badly trained puppy. And he suits the role surprisingly well (I am not a fan, either).

Also, it is 110% worth it for Jamie Bell.
