YOUR NANA AND I HAVE THAT IN COMMON

OH MY GOODNESS! I was JUST thinking about this book the other day and was wondering if I'd imagined it! I'm SO glad I hadn't!
Anyway, to comment on your secret, I don't think I would want to be in the game either, really. Then again, life on Earth really sucked at that point...

I LOVED that book when I was 12!! I read it like a gazillion times. Now I want to hunt it down and go re-read it again....

[identity profile] aethre.livejournal.com 2011-04-07 08:43 pm (UTC)(link)
I remember reading that book! But that's all I remember about it - that I read it. Which, actually, is very high praise from my memory - I've read thousands and thousands of books in my life and I can't even remember the plot of one I finished yesterday, so recognising a title? Major score.

Now I gotta hunt down a copy and read it again.

Is that the book where they name the world Prize?

[identity profile] beautiful-void.livejournal.com 2011-04-08 06:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you! I loved that book as a kid, but I couldn't remember the name of it. I only remembered Prize and a girl named Scylla.

That was my favorite book ever as a kid. And yeah, I'd totally go. Sure, no fandom, but a chance to build a brand new world. I'll take that any day.

[identity profile] shadowkitten87.livejournal.com 2011-04-08 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
omg this. I was just thinking about this book earlier this week! I think I would go, though I can't imagine what skills I could possibly contribute to a new society lol.

[identity profile] overlimits.livejournal.com 2011-04-08 12:55 am (UTC)(link)
HOLY CRAP I'M NOT THE ONLY PERSON THAT EVER READ THAT BOOK? I LOVE ALL OF YOU THAT ANSWERED THIS SECRET. ♥

I'd never thought of it from your perspective, OP. I can see where you're coming from--that it would sort of suck to not have the excitement of playing to come back to, not being able to talk to new people about it...not having the fandom of it, yeah. Interesting. I'm going to have to re-read it now!

Randomly, every time I read the part where Benta comes back and they make what amounts to fettucini alfredo with the stuff she brings, that sounds like the most delicious food ever.

[identity profile] supersyncspaz7.livejournal.com 2011-04-08 03:37 am (UTC)(link)
Oh man, I remember reading that for Battle of the Books in sixth grade!

[identity profile] captainprowler.livejournal.com 2011-04-08 03:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I too remember reading that book in sixth grade! The only reason I still remember it is because the simulation was just called "The Game", and now whenever I lose the game (like right now) I would think of it.

[identity profile] alienchrist.livejournal.com 2011-04-08 06:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Very late, but I loved that book! I think I'd have a hard time leaving everything behind, but the situations for the kids there really isolated them and cut them off from their life - not to mention the addictive power of The Game.
