Snabba Cash, Låt den rätte komma in, Millenium trilogin... What's with Swedish movies getting Hollywood remakes all of a sudden? Can't you just watch the originals with subtitles?

I think the problem is exposure. A lot of people in the US (dunno about other places) don't tend to find out about foreign films unless it's just by word of mouth, probably just because we're so friggin' bombarded by a million new movies a week here already. I didn't hear about Let the Right One In until the remake was scheduled, and I 1) Live in LA, 2) Worked in the entertainment industry at the time, and 3) Am constantly watching movies and trying to keep up with obscure ones (which also include foreign films).

So yeah, that would be my guess as to why a lot of successful foreign films get remade here.

There's more money to be made in remakes than in showing the original. For one thing, if the remake is successful, the studio can create a sequel that may not exist with the original. They did exactly this with The Grudge which is a remake of the Japanese film, Ju-on. The Grudge was a hit, so The Grudge 2 came soon after.

People say, "Oh, it's because Americans don't read subtitles." Nonsense. It's all about money.

Personally, I think that's part of the same argument. Not dissing Americans, though, it's the same for everyone.

Yes. EPIC FAIL. The actress and how they portray lisbeth is just about the biggest fail ever. And really, there is no need at all to make a remake because the movies are a) well-received, b) very current and c) very awesome!
