(Anonymous) 2011-04-10 04:21 am (UTC)(link)I came from the coast, where it was totally all right for you to do the whole college and start the career thing before doing the whole marriage and kids thing. So I was used to people being married and having kids in their late 20's, early 30's.
And then I moved to the middle of bumfuck, and now I'm managing a fast food resteraunt with these 18 and 19 year old kids with kids. And spouses. And it's not just because I work in a dead end sorta job, because even the good kids who are only working here for a little bit of extra money for a car payment or something have gone off and gotten married/knocked up early. Hell, one of them I feel bad for because it's just going to be a waste of potential-she's NHS, super smart, super pretty and could easily be president of the damn country if she wanted to be (although she's republican, ew) and she's in a relationship, and wants to do the whole marriage and kids thing, and go to college in town.
It's just the way things are done out here. Like I feel like I'm going to be an old spinster just because I'm 21 and umarried and without any sort of serious relationship.
