Ppl are being sarcastic all up in here but I actually like this theory; after all, is reading the bible and hanging out in church with other like-minded peeps really any different from reading Harry Potter and hanging out at LJ comms with other like-minded ppl? It's like religion was the first fandom.

You could even go so far as to say that many source material such as Harry Potter/Star Wars/His Dark Materials/Merlin/Narnia/Final Fantasy/whatever are really just at the base the same ye olde bible stories retold in a newer, modern format.

I'm an Athiest and I love fandom; I like stories in general and see the patterns in said stories and behaviour. IDK, just an opinion.
