Officially diagnosed anon here, and while I don't disagree with your main point, I'm not sure that self-diagnosis is really the issue here. Getting a diagnosis (at least in the USA) is difficult, time-consuming, and expensive- and not everyone has the resources to go through that process. In addition, actually being officially diagnosed doesn't prevent the behavior you describe. On or off the spectrum, some people are just jerks- and that's the real problem. Don't call people out for being self-diagnosed, call them out for using AS as an excuse to be an unrepentant ass.

Therapists aren't the only people who can help- overall, I think I've benefited about as much from sharing coping strategies with other autistics as I have from my psych, albeit in different ways.

There are other resources out there, once you know there's a name for your issues and know what you're looking for.

Wouldn't that still fall under the umbrella of "counseling" or "therapy"? Peer counseling perhaps? It's still something, though. I'm mainly talking about people who just google a condition and then go, "yep, I've got that" and that's it

There's a lot of value in the old axiom, "know thyself." Sometimes simply being aware that there is an issue causes people to be more watchful, policing their own behaviors, and then they go out of their way to learn some common social cues so they can act more thoughtful and considerate towards others.

A big part of managing Asperger's is accepting that although one might not feel social cues the way most "neurotypical" people can, they CAN still learn to watch for them. The reason a lot of people benefit from the diagnosis is not because they are looking for excuses to behave badly, but because they are seeking out tools to fit in.

Getting the diagnosis, even via self-diagnosis, is the first step. Someone doesn't need to be formally diagnosed as an alcoholic to do something about it and make positive changes. It's the same for Asperger's.

Sometimes it's just good to have a name for your problems, even if there's nothing you can do for it.
