I'm not the OP - but I feel like I could be. I go to lots of anime conventions on the East Coast (like NY Comicon, Anime NEXT, Otakon, Katsucon, etc.), and I have either been party to an exchange like this or heard about an exchange like this multiple times.

I think it's the [compulsive behavior + obsessive interest + social awkwardness] factor that leads people to self diagnose, as if that were any excuse for saying something like "How STUPID could you BE for not thinking about that one character that appeared for three minutes in the PSP remake of a game that wasn't originally released in North America DUH" like the Comic Book Guy on The Simpsons. It's like people use ADD as a codeword for a certain stereotyped behavior, I think.

That's weird, I haven't. And even then...why is the other person apologizing for pointing out that something's a mean thing to say? How is that suddenly insensitive?
