The PROPER reason is that Marc Meer turned in one of the most unfeeling performances I've heard in a long time. It's one thing when VA was new and budgets couldn't afford to spend a lot on it- "BARRY, WHERE'S BARRY" will go down in history in all its wonderful cheesy wooden glory, because we acknowledge and accept that VA in the mid-90s was new and clunky and cheap- but there's no excuse for a guy like Marc Meer getting paid what was likely a very large sum for his work and he comes off so... god damned... WOODEN.

I'm not a Sheploo hater, I just always had trouble taking Mark Meer's performance seriously. And so all my M!Sheps end up being cartoons anyway.

Hmm but I think it kinda shows that Meers usually a fine actor, I certainly didn't recognize his voice until this video pointed it out. So maybe in this case the voice director is to blame...
