at some point in my life i realized that i no longer cared what other people thought. obvs. the opinion of close friends/family mattered to me, and still do, but not so much that i would let them dictate my life.

the trick to it, as far as i can tell, is that i kept saying and pretending "i don't care what anyone thinks!" and slowly it became true.

there are certain serious matters in life where you should take into account the judgment of others besides your own. but for the most part, when you find yourself worrying what other people will say, ask yourself, "who are 'they' exactly? is it some specific person who i respect who will look down on me forever if i tell them i really love this movie? is this really such a big deal?"

most of the time, it's not such a big deal. if you happen to be surrounded by people who get upset if you don't like/wear/do the same things as them, uh... get new friends if you can. but usually life is not like Mean Girls. and on the internet, you can always always find more people just like you.

if you're already considered weird-- well, nobody is entirely normal anyway. people have been telling me all my life i am "quirky" and "unusual". since whatever-it-is has persisted in my personality all this time, there is no point in worrying about it, and i advise you not to worry about it either.
