There are a few kid actors I legitimately liked, and thankfully some of them are aging fairly gracefully (Freddie Highmore, Logan Lerman)-- but yeah, most of the 'good ones' don't tend to make the transition all that well, and the rest are either really good in one role because they're basically playing themselves, or just actually terrible. Acting isn't exactly a skill someone is born with.

Oh god, I hate children actors. Okay, hate is a strong word. But they make me uncomfortable/awkward.

I can handle them more on tv shows than in movies, mostly because they casting for them is much better. Movie child actors can rarely act well, IMO.

They mentioned modern child actors. Not child actors from the 80s and back. Plenty of famous actors started out as child actors and damned good ones to boot.

I think you missed the point (unless I did?).

I thought they were saying that the only ones they liked *didn't* carry on working. As in, they know lots of them do carry on working and turn out good actors (as in your examples) but they didn't like those ones when they acted as children. The only child actors they liked are the ones mentioned who don't get much work.

I've always thought that kid from Billy Elliot was brilliant. Never heard of or seen him in anything else. But for a pretty sensitive role, I was always really impressed by him.
