It frankly is a bit of a surprise. A good surprise.

I don't know what world you live in, where gay relationships are prominent parts of the media landscape, played not for laughs or tragedy but simply as another kind of relationship. Yes, it's been true that Kurt has been openly gay from the start-- but I think a lot of people expected for the show to keep finding excuse after excuse to keep him single, and so were surprised (pleasantly) when this turned out not to be the case. Giving Kurt the kind of blushy hearts-and-roses first romance we're so used to seeing for teenaged heterosexual couples is a good thing, and people responding to it in a kind of over-the-top blissfully happy way... that's a good thing, too.

Annoying shippers will be annoying regardless. But excited shippers being excited because their ship is finally canon? That's been happening forever, but people who ship gay couples haven't often had the chance to have this kind of experience in relationship to mainstream media. So give the fans a break, okay?
