What made you fall out of the show, if you don't mind sharing? Far as I'm concerned Season 2 and 4 are the best of all of them, and the show isn't correlated with the books after the first season.

To be completely honest? The weird mystical/magical crap that Lindsey started doing in the books. I don't know why but I loved it, something about the Dark Passenger being a separate entity with it's own thoughts, actions, and even conflicts existing inside of Dexter was really appealing. It's like Dexter was born a soulless little monster, so a bodiless little monster moved right in.

And I'm not the best at compartmentalizing, so reading book-Dexter and then watching TV-Dexter doing two almost completely different things was strange, so after a bit I just went with the one I preferred.

Fair enough. Do you think that the books were a more realistic sort of thing that could happen in a psychological sense? I will say I haven't given the books a try for that very reason, because I have a hard time seeing something that I love in such a drastically different light, but there's a book that just recently came out that goes through why Dexter's urges are the way they are (from the show's standpoint), called The Psychology of Dexter.

I was just curious because I've heard the books go more into a sort of cult-following like you said, where it turns mystical. If it turns into something less plausible I probably won't read them.

Not really, no, but I don't read Dexter for realistic or the psychology. Not totally, anyway. To me it's more of a fantasy series that has a serial killer as the protagonist, and that combines two of my interests.

I am interested in serial killer psychology, but when I want a book about that I usually get one about real serial killers and their motives. My personal fascination is about killers who cannibalize their victims, so in that sense Dexter's psychology wouldn't interest me much since his compulsion developed him into a very non-sexual, unattached omnivore type killer.
