Okay, so does this series have a fandom now? And is it based around Harry/Marcone? ...Man I don't want to read porn about those characters, I just want gen fic. :(

Hmmmm. Well I know there are gen fics at FF.Net but yeah, most of the active fandom I've found on LJ is Harry/Marcone shipping. Plus rare other pairings and the TVverse versions of Harry/Bob and Harry/Murphy.

I believe there is one or three gen fics on the kink meme but I don't have any links to them. I know there are gen *prompts*, but am unsure about any gen fills.

Damn. Of course they'd all be slash fans.

I really want me some Murphy/Elaine femslash, but you know how the internet is about lesbian fanpairings.

You should read the Lea/Maggie Sr. fill on the first round. Good times.

there's very little gen fic there either :(

You can also try here: the nine muses archive (http://www.theninemuses.net/archive/), run by Priscellie. The mod defaults to Harry/Murphy and there's a lot of Murphy-bears-Harry-babies-like-a-good-woman, but there's also a lot of gen. And hey, if Murphy losing her balls and becoming a loving wife is your thing, I don't judge.

There are some gen fics on AO3 (One of them written by me for Yuletide) so you might want to check there. But yeah, the default seems to be Harry/Marcone. I've read and enjoyed some Harry/Marcone, but it's hard to find anything else...variety, people!

I just am not interested in Harry/Marcone. I mean, they've got an interesting dynamic, but I don't want to read about Harry crawling back to him because "the sex is so fantastic". asadfasdf usually I'll slash/ship, but not in this case. Sigh. Oh well, thanks, I'll look on A03.

That may be the dynamic a bunch of fandom uses but it's certainly not the only one out there. Harry as equal partner is kind of a big thing for quite a few of us.

There is a

dresdenfic comm that has some gen mixed in, but it must be hunted for. Or try The Archive (http://www.theninemuses.net/archive/), as it has a search tool. :3

At this point, I am so desperate for a Butters fix, I might even read porn. Probably not. But...maybe?

Slightly OT, but - man, I want to like these books. I've read the first three, and some of the characters are fascinating (Murphy and Thomas, especially, but not only them). And I like the worldbuilding, for the most part. But - I can't get over the main character being a tremendous asshole. Please, someone tell me that if I keep reading he'll get more tolerable? Please? (Also, please tell me that the Christian knight with the stick up his ass doesn't become a frequent recurring character? Because he was worse than Dresden.)

I'm on book eleven, and I have a confession to make: I sure as hell don't read the series for Harry. I read it for the supporting cast -- Murphy, Thomas, Lara, ~~poor Lash~~, Luccio, Ebenezar, Kincaid, Ivy, Mab, Lea, Mouse... (Marcone doesn't really interest me, tbh, which from what I've gathered puts me in the fandom minority, but oh well.)

(Michael does become a recurring character -- nearly everyone does -- but he's fleshed out in the process and becomes more likeable, imo. Just wait till you meet his fellow Knight of God who's an agnostic.)

I just want to say that I think the third book is the worst in the series. I would give book 4 a try before writing off the series for good.

(And I agree with the anon about the supporting cast being fantastic. I like Harry but I can see why others wouldn't, but he isn't my favorite character in the series.)

Oh, definitely. Book 4 is really where the series starts to hit its stride and suck you in.

I remember when I was in an off-topic chatroom for a game I've been playing, and Dresden Files came up. When I voiced my concerns (having read only the first three books), almost everyone said for me to give book 4 a try first. And also how they knew that book 3 was a bit soul-crushing. So I went to the library, and I'm glad I did.

When I reread the series again there's a good chance I'll skip book 3. (It's a bit of a toss up if I would, though, because it is the book where we first meet Thomas.)

Michael turns out to be kinda awesome, actually.
