For the person giving it, it is. If I think Good Omens is shit, it's shit (to me). That is a fact, and the opinion is implied. It doesn't make you or the person above look smart to be all "Symantics! Opinions aren't facts! Blah blah blah!" It just makes you look like an idiot who needs the world spelled out for you and ideas spoonfed to you because you're incapable of reading between the widest of lines.

ok while i agree that "My opinion is..." is implied and doesn't need to be explicitly stated in secrets or posts, you're trying to argue that your opinions count as facts, which is the stupidest thing ever. "Good Omens is shit" can't be a fact because there's no way to test or prove it, it can only be an opinion because it's inherently subjective. So drop that argument, because it's dumb and is just completely undermining your overall point of "you guys need to read inbetween the lines instead of being so literal"

The fact is not that Good Omens is shit for everybody. The fact is that is shit for me. The fact is that that is my opinion. It is my personal fact that I can prove with all the ways I hate it.

Why is it that fandom people can go on and on about "their own personal headcanon" for shows and whatnot but THIS is just apparently the most confusing, wrong thing ever?

The fact is you don't know the difference between opinion and fact. The fact is you are wrong. The fact is that people have different opinions on Good Omens and that's okay. Your opinion is that it's a shitty book. The fact is that your opinion is only true for you, and therefore only an opinion.

"Good Omens is shit" is not a fact. It is an opinion. It can only be an opinion.
"I think Good Omens is shit" can be a fact. Almost everyone is capable of inferring that "Good Omens is shit", the apparent fact, actually was intended to mean "I think it's shit", the actual opinion. This doesn't mean that the two are equivalent.
There is no such thing as a "personal fact". That's called an "opinion", a thing that is true for you personally but not for everyone. You are really being quite dense here. You can't say "And for OP, the opinion is fact", since the OP isn't fucking delusional; them (or you) saying it's shit doesn't make the book literally transform into a pile of faeces. If everyone considered their opinion to be a fact there wouldn't be a word for opinion and society would collapse, you dumbass. Nobody's confused or wrong except you, hth

Thank you! I think it's just that this Fandom!Secrets on LJ -- one of the most likely communities on one of the most likely sites for finding arrogant "academics" who only want to tear other people down.

Those comments made me glad I posted anon, but yours and the one you replied to almost make me wish I hadn't.
