Pretty sure character designs account for a lot of the following. How many fans actually read the whole thing start to finish?

(Anonymous) 2011-04-26 01:04 am (UTC)(link)
uh, most of us? what would be the point otherwise?

You haven't been a fan of just part of a canon for anything?

I *tried*. Was caught up at one point, but it's so long and updates so often.

(Then again, I'm not really involved in the fandom, either. I'm sure if I could do that much based on nothing but a devoted fan's prompting, actual devoted fans can keep up.)

the people who only read from hivebent on are few and far between and are usually outed pretty quickly as idiots

seriously though why even bother thats like saying youre a fan of harry potter but only ever read the deathly hallows

It's exactly like HP - there are lots of fans who are only into a few characters or aspects and who skim/skip the parts that don't focus on them. The fandom is huge, the canon is huge, it's easy to stick with what interests you and ignore the rest.

When dealing with fanwork and discussion, yeah, but to skip whole sections of canon is something else entirely. Just because someone doesn't write about the Felt doesn't mean they skipped the intermission, just like if someone only writes about the Marauders, it doesn't mean they only read those parts of Harry Potter.

And yes, I know that people do skip parts of series sometimes, but the idea that that covers most of the fans is just ridiculous.

i have a confession to make

For shame. You are probably the worst person alive today.

Goodness me, take some time one weekend to make some popcorn and sit down with the intermission. The Felt and the Midnight Crew are FANTASTIC. Just don't think too hard about the time shenanigans. They'll make your head explode.

I did too.

Then I read Problem Sleuth, thought 'OH THAT'S WHAT THAT WAS ABOUT', and went back and read the intermission, enjoying it now that I knew what it was based on.

IMO, you didn't miss anything.

The intermission was the only part I hated - I thought it was boring as fuck (yes, worse than the first act, which is usually the biggest deterrent for people getting into Homestuck). But it's supposed to have something to do with Problem Sleuth, so if I ever read that I might appreciate it, idk. But I'm planning on rereading Homestuck, and can't see myself sitting through the intermission again.

/cue millions of Felt fans (wtf is up with that) and Midnight Crew fans
