Wow, I can't believe how many people are so against this secret!

I generally agree with the OP. Now granted, I think there are some things that aren't so bad; like if you're a teen in the Teen Titan fandom - therefore the characters are your peers, so they'd be sexual to you (just like you'd have a crush on a schoolmate). To some degree, if you were said teen, then just grew up more, but still liked the couple, I'd be less squicked. In the same way, a 19 year old reading something about 17 year old is very different than a 30 year old reading about a 15 year old. It all comes down to the question "Would it be creepy to date them?" If the answer's yes (particularly when first getting into a character/couple), then the whole thing is a bit squicky for me.

For me personally, there's also the question of "are these characters really children"? Dumb question, but there are a bunch of animes, JRPGs, etc. where they're more like adults than children in terms of behavior and sometimes appearance. That kind of bumps up the acceptable age of the viewer for me, but ymmv.

Unfortunately, this happens every time someone mentions that they're against loli/shota/underage/whatevercutesynamethekinkhastoday. We get the 'omg!Thoughtpolice!' and the 'omg!Pedo' groups out in spades.

Me? I've decided that I wold feel a lot more comfortable if loli stories weren't becoming mainstream and I kept finding people who love an 8 year old anime character so much that they want to 'rape' her. They might not be pedophiles, but they sure are creepy.

For what it's worth, I understand the omg!Pedos more, because at the end of the day, they are underage characters, and if they don't understand that it's about the character rather than the age it does seem creepy.

I'm not a complete prude, where "OMG! a 19 year old fantasizing over a 17 year old!" but in stories where the age difference is the point... It is incredibly creepy!
