Hee. I dig the books, but even so, you won't see me rereading them anywhere NEAR as often as I rewatch the movies. The books had a magnificent story (which the movies tapped into in a fucking amazing way) but Tolkien wasn't writing an adventure story so much as BUILDING A WORLD, so the story very often takes a backseat to the insane-o descriptions of forests and mountains and swamps and cities and the language of the elves as he transcribes their songs and then translates em into english so we can learn just what they're saying and a whole assload of tertiary characters who show up once and chat for awhile and then never again and the backstory of every stronghold they pass and etc etc etc

I'm fond of them, but they're not plot-driven like the movies are. He built a world and godddammit he's gonna illustrate it for us! But I would never shit on anyone for feeling like you do :D

the movies are different. I wouldn't say IF YOU DON'T LIKE THEM THEN YOU SUCK or anything like that, but I legit doubt I could go out with someone who didn't like those movies. Friends sure, I've got a few who don't, but dating? Don't think so. I know it sounds dumb but if you do not like the LotR movies we are incompatible.
