It's a comic book universe so there is a good chance they'll get back together someday, if only briefly. I remember being all over them as a pairing in the first arcs of the manga (never really watched the anime much), but then Ishida started becoming a secondary character and I gradually stopped reading it. This secret makes me feel a little nostalgic :

In all my years in fandom, I've realized that a certain amount and kind of badassitude can make almost any character attractive.

And anyway, IMO it's far better to find him a little attractive than, for example, Spandam. I'd take a badass fat old fishman over that spineless, cowardly weasel anyday.
