I can't honestly say I liked him better but I liked him a lot. There's just something about his eyes and his acting was excellent.

(Maybe it's just that the film overall didn't do so much for me. But he did.)

Oh yeah totally. He was way more the Darcy I pictured when I read the book, in terms of social awkwardness more than straight up being kind of a jerk.

Even though I love Firth to tiny bits and pieces (hell, Netflix just added a new category to my recommendations: 'movies starring Colin Firth'), I just couldn't get into his Darcy. MacFadyen!Darcy, however? I would do all kinds of naughty things to him.

(Some of it is the voice. Lord, that man has a sexy voice.)

EYEROLL. Yeah, you are the FIRST PERSON EVER to feel that way. Poor 2005 fans, they are all so very, very alone.

People have been saying this since it was released almost six years ago. Heck, there are even people who prefer the miniseries and still don't think Colin Firth is the greatest thing since sliced bread and think Matthew Macfadyen did a better job in the role (I'm one of them.) Maybe you're in the minority as far as your preferences go (I actually have no idea which version has more fans,) but there are plenty of people who agree with you, and there always have been.

Personally, I'm really curious why the persecution complex is so persistent when it comes to this movie. There have been so many remakes of so many movies and shows - songs, too, now that I think about it - and every fan has their own ideas about which version is best. You like what you like. Most people won't give a crap if you like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory best.

I will always prefer the mini-series and Colin Firths' Darcy to that movie but I think it's mainly just because the mini-series did the entire story and didn't have to be condensed to 2 hours. I think if Matthew MacFadyen had his Darcy in a Pride and Prejudice which could have taken more time I would have enjoyed it more.

Still absolutely love the movie and his portrayal though.

Me too - there was much more of a sense of Stuff going on undeneath as an explanation for how Darcy was acting with Matthew. Liking the 2005 movie or aspects of it does seem to be more acceptable these days though.

Agreed; I really thought he played Darcy better, IMO. Mainly because when I read the book Darcy wasn't a jerk, but just "I'm shy and awkward and I'm going to ignore you now because of that" and people just extrapolated "HE'S A DIIICK" from that. Because of the whole First Impressions thing. Yeah.

idk, I just thought he played to the character I know better. Socially awkward but wants Elizabeth like burning.

I find both attractive, but MacFadyen's voice is basically oozing sex, so that's a bonus.
