I agree with this secret. Ukefication really annoys me. At the same time, people are free to write what they want, I'll just avoid it.

You'd better tell Himaruya he's doing it wrong then, because while I've seen plenty of weepy, blushy and awkward England in canon I don't remember much details about "his former glory" and his pride... (I do, however remember him going around with a bunch of flowers trying to find friends)

Yes, but pretty much ALL characters blush in Hetalia canon. And it has its fair share of tsunderes. Do people do that crazy, blushy-clingy-UKe crap with Germany, too? (I don't read Germany fic so I dunno.)

Just genuinely curious: where is England weepy?

I don't read Germany fic either, but I do read AmericaxEngland fic, and they don't do that "crazy, blushy-clingy-uke" crap with England all the time either, so yeah.

As for England being weepy, just the most obvious scenes that come to my mind: little America (a kid he's just met!) calling him oniichan, England being drunk and crying about America leaving him, England crying about America being stupid to a tree (from which Japan later makes a flute :D), and more, I can list more examples when I get home and I can actually look at the manga.

No, Germany doesn't get this sort of treatment. He does get his canon awkwardness shoved to the side to make him match the "seme" model, though. Personally I think that's just as bad.

England IS a tsundere, and can be emotional. However, America has been described as a tsundere as sorts too, but Himaruya himself.
I agree that England can be blushy and tsundere at times, but a lot of fans take this too far. When people make this the ONLY aspect of his character and completely neglect his other traits, it can be frustrating.

But I admit, people can go overboard the "former pirate badass" stuff too. Both extremes can be annoying.

Yeah, America is tsundere as well, though I don't remember Himaruya saying that... well, tsundere is tsundere.

And I'm not saying people don't take certain character traits and run with it - they do. What I find facepalm-worthy is people like the OP calling out people for writing England as tsundere, emotional, etc. - that is, having traits he actually has in canon, meanwhile berating fans for not writing the character according to what is little more than popular fanon (badass ruthless pirate omg).

I do agree with you there, come to think of it... It was more the "America's pining lovestruck pet" thing that struck a chord with me. England does pine in cannon, but he's also constantly insulting America and definitely isn't "his pet".

An emotional and tsundere England doesn't bug me if it's done properly.
