idk. I've favorited both some pretty horrendous and some amazingly good fic. Sometimes it just rubs me the right way, even if it's not that good.....but I guess that means I don't have good taste. Ha. Oh well.

Not to mention that I may have faved some of them ages ago. Tastes can change.

I've done this in the past, too. Sometimes there's an element in an otherwise mediocre or even crappy fic that I like and I'll want to read it again.

Ha, I think, when it comes to porn (or just fluff and stuff) the sincerity and roughness of really mediocre fic sometimes makes it just as appealing as the really well-written stuff. Especially in porn: shitty pornfic also tends to be the most unabashedly prolific without going through the motions of dressing it up nicely, and sometimes that does it better for me.

I judge it by the number of fics they've put in their favourites. It's a nice feeling to be one out of 10, rather than one out of 100.

Is there anyone who doesn't do that? o_O (I mean, like, anyone who's not all new to writing/having their fics favorited in general)

I have never done that before. D: Sometimes I look to see if someone who favourited my stuff has written anything themselves, though.... not often.

I do this too, kind of. And like the anon above, I also look at how many fics/authors they have on their Favourites list. >_>;;

I totally do this. XD

I am kind of a combo of the quality of other fics favorited and the number.

...When I remember to care enough to bother checking, that is.

slightly ot, but a lot of the time slightly badly-written pornfic is ten times hotter than the super-well-written ones. i have no idea why.

I used to do this all the time. People with incredibly horrible taste in fic seemed to be the only people reading my fic. It helped me realize that I suck. I don't write too much anymore.

When someone posts a secret, I check if they've used clip art for the central image, and then use that to laugh at them.

... at least you didn't use WordArt?

I delete all the "favorite story/author" notifications I get without even looking at them. :|

Hah, I do this too, and I don't care who knows it. However, I'm more likely to check someone's profile if they leave me a review instead of just favoriting.

I sometimes do that too. :D And also check to see how many things they've faved. And if they also write stories.

That being said... it probably wouldn't tell you much if you looked at my faves. I fave stories I follow regardless of quality; some I only fave because my friends wrote them, some I'm only reading to return reviews that the author left on my fics... so yeah.

I honestly do this all the time. It kind of depresses me how only a few people who seem to write/read good to okay works like my stuff or when the people who fave me fave a thousand other works.

Oh, come on OP. Do it for fun and giggles all you want (I'm partial to checking the stories before and after the one I posted, myself), but you will never know the reasoning that goes behind each person's favving habits.
- the favver has no critical taste whatsoever (hello mom!) and doesn't distinguish between good and bad fiction.
- the favver has close friends who cannot write and faves their works for friendship
- the favver has been using that account for X years and their tastes have changed
etc.
Get a strict beta if you want to check the quality of your writing...

I sometimes look at the profile page of those who favourite/review my stories. It's mostly to look at their work, though.

But, like other posters have said, this doesn't actually tell you anything. Some people will favourite a story just because it has their favourite character.

I would believe that a large majority of writers do that, I know I do.

But it's not really such a big problem for me... I know I'm not born to write or anything, but it's nice to see people with ranging tastes (good or bad) who have liked my fic.

I used the same clip art for a project in a class so seeing it here made me go *Whoaaaa =DD* for two seconds.

So thank you for making me feel happy for two seconds there, op.
