YES! She's my favorite and the one I relate to the most (which, admittedly, is a reason I like her). Plus, a companion that beats up a Dalek with a baseball bat? WIN.
I know we've got the books and radio dramas that help explain what happened to her, but I'd love for the Doctor to run into her near 17th Century France.

I want more old school companions to show up, I never understood why Sarah Jane was the only one. Why NOT Ace or Jamie or Turlough or Tegan?

Okay, Romana And Susan not showing up makes sense, and some of the characters died and so have some of the other actors, I'm sure. And lord knows no one wants to see Peri again, but still. There is a LOT of potential for GREAT storytelling there!!!

...I have to confess: I smell a fanfiction, but it would be completely awesome.

Sarah Jane was the only one because Lis Sladen was available, I guess (and also partly because the current show runners have more nostalgia for the seventies). Likewise Tegan's chances of coming back are slim because Janet Fielding isn't an actress any more, she's moved on to something completely different.

Turlough is more of a possibility, though, cause Mark Strickson has been involved with the show at least once (he narrates a documentary on one of the DVDs I have).

Many former companions also do Big Finish releases, Tegan and Turlough and Jamie and Zoe have all shown up recently.

I think it was probably a nostalgia aspect, Sarah Jane is rather entrenched in people's mind.

I'm aware of the Big Finish audios, but I don't really follow them - Tegan and Turlough? Really? Awesome. :3

But then again, methinsk being available to do a Big Finish story and being available to do an episode on the show is probably not the same thing, plus audio stories don't require the writers to compensate for the characters all looking twenty-odd years older. And then there's the fact that bringing back too much former companions could get alienating for the younger fanbase...

oh yeah, there is definitely a big difference between audio and video :) There's even a few with the whole crew, though, Tegan, Turlough, Nyssa and Five.

If you're interested in the BF audios I could point you to a place to *ahem* acquire a few.

That's a good point about trying to build a new fanbase as opposed to just play to the old one, although I watch DW with my kids and we've gotten a lot of old school serials out to the library and watched together.

ACE CAN COME TOO.

An Ace + Romana Team Tardis would be amazing, actually. In fact, they can ditch the Doctor and run off together to save the universe. Ace can provide the explosives and Romana the Timelordly subterfuge.
