Honest to God, I thought the Doctor was asexual until I saw Sound of Drums. It was the first time I saw him having sexual tension with anyone and it hit me like a fucking anvil and I went "Oh, duh, we've only seen him with humans. Of course he only lights up when there's another Time Lord around, and it just had to be the psycho ex. Time to sit back and watch the fireworks!"

And then I watched more and they are so wonderfully fucked-up and kind of deserve each other and now it is my brand-new shiny OTP.

(I am totally on board with Eleven/River as of season six though. The tension is there, and most of my issues with Doctor/Companion pairings don't apply to them.)
