Yeah, if you sit around feeling down, that IS all you'll ever be. Life is good, go find out why. While all YOU may see is someone who sits around absorbing stories, you might just be the person who makes someone else's day, or picks them up when they're feeling down. I dunno if you write, but generally the more you read/absorb stories, the better stories you can create. How many times have you heard "I wanted to kill myself but I had to wait until I found out the end of (insert fabulous story here) and by then I was very happy and didn't want to anymore.
Thing is, you don't even need a publisher. This is fandom. Get to it.

Also would like to second the person above who suggested volunteering. It can be really fun and has been shown to help with depression and the like.
