Someone spoil the fuck out of me. Why does everyone hate it now?

I guess some people didn't like Yasu, the baby Natsuhi threw off a cliff and miraculously survived, grew up and became Shkanontrice. Also in the miracle kakera where she accepted the baby, they became Lion, the heir to the Ushiromiya family. Also Kyrie and Rudolf kill everyone because they are now evil. And Shkanontrice blows up the house and errbody dies. I think. I've forgotten.

In EP 8, which people hate much more, everyone dies and Battler survives but gets amnesia and the whole story is him trying to make sense of his memories. For example, Lamdadelta is a cake.

What the fuck are you even talking about, lots of people loved it and regard it as their favorite. The one that made everyone mad was EP8.

What happened? I would like to be spoiled.

To put everything in a nutshell, Episode 8 reveals that Episodes 1 & 2 were complete fictions, made up from whole cloth and written by Yasu, who is Shannon/Kannon/Beatrice/the kitchen sink. Every episode after the first two are fictions written by Hachijou and an older amnesic Battler working together, trying to make sense of Battler's twisted and half-remembered memories.

So, basically Episode 8 reveals everything that happened didn't happen and we have no way of knowing what information, if any, is actually based off the truth. Oh, and it's also suggested that Battler may have been one of the murderers along with Kyrie and Rudolf, who were tagged as the "true culprits". Except not. Or maybe they were. Who knows? Ryukishi ain't gonna tell us and we have no way of finding out.

I need to remember that fandom is fucking massive, and just because one group of people hate it like no tomorrow doesn't mean everyone else does.

Hilariously all the haters say that ep8 is 'better' so I'm kinda curious now lol (And by better they mean 'has fight scenes', since apparently that's the only thing Ryuukishi's good at now *sigh*)

People say Ryuukishi is a terrible writer?
And here I thought I was the only one who didn't love his writing. Not because he is bad (he isn't and his stories are enthralling) but because he needs a good editor and I can't stop thinking that while reading.

THIS!! I adore the man's stories and characters, but ugh he has no writing style, his pacing is horrrriiible (5 hours sitting through mundane conversations that don't further the plot at all before you get to the actual storyline!) and the way he writes dialogue is so cheezy. I wish that he had an editor to pare his work down to the beautiful, juicy bits!

did you confuse ep 7 and ep 8 when you were writing this, OP? Because I haven't played ep 8 yet but I heard there were shitstorms. And I fucking loved ep 7, I thought Will and Lion/Yasu were great characters.

Yay, someone else who liked it ;_; (Lion was awesome. And Will and his cat. And Bern was just asfjkhbffhkku) but I'm afraid I haven't got them confused.

I'm in the visual novel community, which is mostly full of fanboys and based around 4chan (usually /jp/) and IRC. About a week before the English patch for episode 6 and the Japanese version of episode 7 came out, everyone literally went from 'Ryuukishi best guy ever have my babies' to 'Umineko worst game ever Ryuukishit can't write it's terrible' overnight. It was the most surreal thing I'd ever seen. I loved episode 6, and episode 7 too, but alas I couldn't fangirl either of them because uttering the magic words 'Umineko' causes about 20 people to descend on you to lecture you about how Umineko is terrible and you should feel bad for liking it blah blah blah. The sheer amount of maliciousness people seem to have for it is astounding. A lot of my friends are already writing off Key's new game 'Rewrite' because Ryuukishi's one of the writers for it.

I'd heard about 2ch going crazy over episode 8 but I just assumed that was an extension of all the wank ep6 and 7 caused. (Those pictures of the broken discs fucking hurt though.) I'm kinda dreading the release of the full episode 8 English patch just because I don't want to sit through yet another hatefest where I will inevitably be the only one defending the game...

well, if you haven't noticed, a lot of people on 4chan have dumb opinions. what i mean by that is they all tend to want to agree with each other, it's a really awful hivemind mentality with no room for argument.

anyways will/lion otp forever :] and i'm totally playing rewrite because i like key's other shit as well... i think ep 8 looks dumb tho lol

God yes, trying to discuss anything is a nightmare. I mean, on LJ if you don't like something you just don't get involved in the fandom and that's the end of that (unless your entire f-list talk about it, then you send in a secret to fandon_secrets lol). On IRC, if you hate something you have to tell everyone about how much you hate it everytime the topic comes up. Srsbsns.

Will/Lion yes <3 And oh god can't wait for Rewrite, it's got Key, Ryuukishi and fucking Romeo Tanaka who I love because he's batshit insane (he wrote Cross Channel, which is seriously amazing and should be played by everyone) so it's like some kind of dream team~ It's also meant to be longer than Little Busters EX, so yikes lol

As for ep8, I've been avoiding spoilers and I'm waiting for the full patch, so I haven't got an opinion atm :P I'm not too worried though, I'm sure a lot of things in Umineko sound terrible in spoiler form, but turn out to be amazing when you play it in game.
