Personally I can't justify paying +$60 for a game pretty much sight unseen. It seems like companies are putting out less and less demos and more micro payment crap a la DLCs (which are really just patches for a broken game that was released before it was done). I download games to try them out. If I really love them then I consider buying them if the price is right, otherwise I wait for the initial launch price to go down. Unless it's an indie game that I really like, then I'll just buy it. They're rarely over $20 anyways.

I agree with OP that if you really do like a series/game you should try to support it. But there is being supportive and knowing when you're getting scammed out of your money. :/ EA is notorious for ripping of its consumers with "expansions." How many expansions of The Sims are there now?? Each released at $40 a pop. That's a very expensive game for just rehashing the same shit over and over again with slightly better graphics and the same shitty ass file structure. But I do enjoy the game and what Maxis created which is why I bought the original Sims 3 game (still regret giving the bastards money) and that was it. All those expansions should've been included in the initial release as far as I'm concerned. :/

What the hell are you talking about. All you have to do is go to a game's website to download a demo. If you own a PS3 or XBOX, there's an entire demos section where you can download pretty much anything. In fact, the industry is essentially oversaturated with demos right now, there are more than ever.

Also, it's not fair to punish all the people who made the game because you think that the distributor is 'scamming' you. You're entirely unaware of how much these things produce to cost and don't have any qualifications to say that outside of 'it seems expensive to me'.

Well, it really depends on what you define as a demo and what value it has. You're right, I shouldn't say there are less demos. What I meant is there are less demos of worth out there. Most are not accurate representations of the final version. They can also be way too short. Especially if it's not a stage/level from the actual game. This isn't enough to reassure me that I'll be interested in what the game has to offer or if I can deal with the inevitable bugs or omitted content. Which is why I try before I buy. If I enjoy it, then I'll purchase it.

My issue isn't that it's too expensive. It's that I want to get what I pay for. I want to know that I'm getting enough entertainment value out of my money. I've taken to trying before buying because of recent bad business trends in the gaming industry. I mean, would you release a movie that didn't have all the special effects completed or without the ending? No... so, why do so many companies release games before they're finished? They're aware of the bugs, but haven't fixed them. I know it's not the developer's fault, it's the publisher's. They release half a game and then put out DLCs asking for money so you can enjoy parts of the game that should've been included in the original. It's crazy and I refuse to pay for it.

And you don't know what qualifications or knowledge I have over the subject matter. This is my personal opinion on what I want to spend MY money on. Value is relative and my standard is perhaps higher than yours. I admit, I'm probably a tad jaded from years of playing video games.
