Pirating to try a game is fine in my book. They're overpriced, and too many companies make short ass games these days that are NOT worth the money.

But having 20+ hours played in a game you pirated? ...:I

Why are they overpriced? What qualifications do you have to say that, outside of 'sure seems like a lot to me!'

NES Games cost between $40-60 to buy, and this is 30 years ago. I plugged that into an inflation calculator, so for reference in today's economy that would be $95-$145 dollars a pop. Some SNES games were even $80 or $90 when they came out, which I'm sure you can guess was wicked expensive in the early 90s.

This means that today's games are the CHEAPEST games have ever been. And frankly, they have more content than they've ever had.

And what qualifications do you have to say they aren't? It's an opinion, that's all it ever was. :P

16-bit games ranged from $40-50 typically. Genesis games were often a bit cheaper. Why did they cost that much? Cartridges mostly. The profit margins were lower then. Cartridges are expensive compared to CDs.

'Some' SNES games cost more than that? You're mostly thinking the big RPGs. Most notably, FFVI and Chrono Trigger. And they have the longevity to justify it, imo. Rarely was anything else that price. Phantasy Star IV (Genesis) was $90 and I happily paid the price, as I got a lot out of it.

Not to mention a new trend is that extra content = paying for DLC. A fair few games offer bang for the buck, but a lot of titles are relying on players being hungry for multiplayer and throwing in campaigns you can beat in less than 4 hours. And a shitton of games (coincidentally, from companies known for making the long ones) are coming out buggy as hell. Just look at Bioware/Bethesda. It's ridiculous. Mass Effect still has an autosave bug. Oblivion and Fallout3 (New Vegas in particular) are still a mess.

The fact is, there are games out there that aren't worth $60. Homefront is a great example for this. It was ridiculously short. I'm not against paying these prices persay, I'm against paying them without an informed opinion.
