2. Completely agreed. Yeah, the character design's kinda cool, he had nifty gadgets and hung out with Mello, but he did absolutely nothing.

And by the way, people: there is absolutely no canon indicating that Matt was "third" in line for L's title. Near and Mello are definitely first/second/first in line, and it's been stated as such, but not Matt. He showed up, did his thing and DIED. Please don't make things up for minor characters.

this is the poster of #2, but i should probably point out that although it's true it's never stated in canon, the author did say in an interview that matt was third in line to be l. people aren't making that up.

Actually, it's pretty much canon: it was listed in the official info-book.

Uh, yeah. WRONG. Information about Matt's past is found in How to Read 13, the stats/interview book that came out last October (which also included L's real name). Try actually investigating something before you shoot your mouth out about it. And he "did absolutely nothing"? Funny, because I'm pretty sure that if he hadn't been in the story at all, the entire ending would never have happened.
