Most FPS games are complete crap, but you don't see people writing off the entire genre because of it.

And yet you just did.

Bioshock. Portal 1 and 2. Half-Life 1 and 2. Stories that beat the shit out of any JRPG or Bioware game out there. And I kinda like Bioware, and have a soft spot in my heart for Final Fantasy. But when Valve decides to make an FPS with plot? Best stuff out there.

I'm sorry. It was late at night, and a lot of my friends and people in my circle feel the need to "defend themselves as gamers" by bashing FPSes as plotless and stupid, since they're all into Bioware RPGS and mmorpgs. Mind you, I like Bioware RPGs and MMORPGSs, but I'm a huge Valve fangirl and my first true gaming experience was DOOM, so I also am very defensive of FPSes. I think the problem is FPS fans don't consider non FPS players (I can't even say RPG, because to an extent I consider things like BioShock RPGs)real "gamers" and so non FPS players tend to get hostile towards FPSes, and assume they have no plot. It's a vicious cycle. I know I had to suggest to one friend in all seriousness that he give Half-Life a try after he said that no FPS ever had plot or purpose.
