...Considering there are only five female characters that actually have personalities, it's not that bad. Grell, Lizzie, Ran Mao, Maylene and Madame Red. Madame Red wasn't exactly a hidden badass, Grell's a shinigami, Ran-Mao works for Lau, and Maylene had to be hired for a reason if she was such a crap maid. I'd also say, considering Lizzie's upbringing in the Manga, it makes sense she has sword skills. And just because she's good with swords doesn't mean she's going to stop being the sweet, energetic Lizzie who wants to see Ciel smile.

Also, it's a Manga. With demons. Why the hell are you worried about an accurate representation when there are DEMONS?

Uh, I don't think she acted like a lady of the time at all. She ran around screaming, giggling, and decorating her fiance's house with ribbons and stars. How is that appropriate behavior suiting a young woman in that time period?

I seriously can't think of a single moment in the series, anime or manga, where she behaved as what was acceptable back then.
