This, so much.

I guess the last couple episodes have been better, at least Barnaby is not that much of a dick to Kotetsu any more (unlike the first couple times they appeared together on screen), but URGH, it really grinds my gears that pretty much everyone else (especially the other heroes!) is so condescending towards Kotetsu.

I know. Barnaby could be such an ass to Kotesu, but I agree that he's been improving lately (though Baranby is still the character I like the least). Though I wanted to hit him in the Ivan-centric episode when his old teacher tells him he's lucky he got such a great partner and Baranby is all, "What are you talking about?"

What irritated me the most was when Barnaby told the NEXT students/trainees that the most important thing about being a hero was collecting points. Seriously WTF.

At least Kotetsu has moral standards.

I know.

Baranby is way too focused on points for my taste (though I might be a bit leniant if it turns out he wants to get a ton of points to drive out his parents' murderer) but what annoyed me from the beginning was how he classified things like honor and friendship as old-fashioned thinking. You are a horrible super hero, Baranaby, I don't care how efficent you can be.

I completely agree with you. To be honest, he's not even that efficient, at least he doesn't seem so! Not that many bandit captures in the anime so far. :P Not to mention I really can't see how more points would help him? I guess it may all come together in the end, though it just sounds like he wants points because... well, that's the way he is!

Though, I DON'T like Barnaby, my least favored character would have to be Lunatic (whatever his 'real' name is, because I can't remember it at the moment).

Yeah, Baranaby is really not as great as everyone in the show is billing him to be.

Lunatic...yeah, I have to admit I dislike him more than Barnaby. He's everything I dislike about the 90s style anti-heroes (too easy to kill crimials in a misguided version of justice). I want them to take him down.

Just threadjacking to say I love this thread, and it's good to see people actually acknowledging this crap about Barnaby.

Lunatic is my least favorite too. I like the character design, but he's really boring and annoying. I wish they had made a more charming villain, because that seems to be what they were trying to go for.

While I agree Barnaby is a dick, I think the whole point with him is that they are mocking corporate interference. Like, the idea that is something is corproate, it is emotionaless. That he is praised for being successful, even though he isn't doing it to be a good person, just reinforces that point, to me. I don't feel like the audience is supposed to like Barnaby as much as the other characters do. I think Kotetsu is supposed to be our POV character, and since he finds Barnaby annoying, we are too. Personally, I like Barnaby because I think he is an interesting character and far from the perfection that the other heroes and Agnes see him as.

(Also I am loving all of these DW icons :3)
