(Anonymous) 2011-06-03 01:11 am (UTC)(link)Not EVERY casting of a movie is done deliberately to stamp out all traces of minority, that's all I'm saying. Should things be accurate as possible? Fuck yeah. But in the entertainment business, it all comes down to is money, and a lot of companies are NOT going to take a chance on a most likely fantastic actor when they could throw in some big talentless names instead, regardless of whether they have any resemblance to the intended character.
It's demented, yes, and it's why so many films flop, despite said names (Prince of Persia, for example), but to assume that everything is done with malicious intent seems ridiculous.
Do I think people should speak out about this kind of stuff? Again, yes. I have no problem with casting directors being made aware that their decisions suck, and that the public (well... not all of it) is so sheep-minded that if your main character isn't someone we've seen in thirteen movies this year alone, we won't go see the film period.
Anyway, now that I've tl;dr'd, I'll shut up, because you are partially correct, and I probably should have looked into the casting conditions (if they're readily available, as they seem to be, since someone did correct me) before commenting.
