We're not arguing that Lawrence isn't right for the role. To be honest, I saw Winter's Bone and I think she's pretty spot on. What people are getting upset over is the fact that the casting call for the character only called for Caucasian girls when Katniss (as described in the book and as considered by the author) could very well be of mixed race.

When people focus on the casting call and the screw-ups there, I am on board completely. But so many people are dragging it away from that to the point where I feel it intrudes on the personal understanding that each reader forms regarding the characters. At that point, no one else has the right to criticize that understanding - white, black, Latino, Asian, mixed race, or reptilian alien.
