You're aware that many of the parents of today where conceived during a time when atomic bomb drills were mandatory and the country was on the edge of nuclear war, right? Were those people irresponsible for bring a child into a world where they could potential be exposed to nuclear radiation?

The world is never going to be a perfect place, so what you're basically saying is that no one should have kids. Ever.

And as to the whole, "heteronormative" business. Why don't you just call it normal?

Ah, before you burst a blood vessel, hear me out.

When something's the norm, that means is the most common way of doing things. It's normal. Anything that deviates from the norm is not normal. Still with me? Good. Does that necessarily make it WRONG? No. But it's still not normal. What's more, what's considered normal by a culture changes as the culture changes. Example: interracial couples. So, who's to say whether LGBT relations will be considered normal in the future or not. Precedence says the answer is yes so...preemptive congratulations?

As far as mainstream media goes, it will move only as fast as the culture it's a part of. Perhaps a little ahead of it, but not by much because it doesn't want to alienate itself from the people which keep it alive. The majority. Aka normal.
