Not gonna lie: this is probably the most ignorant comment I have read all day; and I was on 4chan this morning. You are aware that the majority of the planet is hetero, right?

(Anonymous) 2011-06-04 03:49 am (UTC)(link)
got links to statistics on that?

or is that just a polling of your pathetic useless homophobic mouth breathing friends.

Dude, most people and relationships are hetero. If you were looking for realism in a group of six random teens, one, maybe two of them would be something besides cis and strictly hetero. Maybe they'd be romantically/sexually compatible, maybe not.

That said, this secret is silly. Who cares if it's unlikely, it's fun!

I would have to disagree that the majority of people are cis and strictly hetero. My beef is with the "strictly", mostly. I think the vast majority of people are probably somewhere in the middle but identify as hetero because they're MOSTLY hetero, not because they're 100% all-opposite-sex-all-the-time-and-never-felt-uncomfortable-with-my-gender.
And then of course there are the aces. Everyone always forgets us :\

(Anonymous) 2011-06-04 05:57 am (UTC)(link)
Kay then, one of the two mentioned is ace, and one or two of the remaining four have had a same sex day dream, or thought a same sex actor/other person they'll never actually date was sexy. That makes a world of difference.

I've found that a lot of straight-identifying people don't necessarily think about it, because the societal norm is heterosexuality. I've had the "Well... have you ever thought about it?" talk many times with people I feel close enough to have that discussion, and the reactions I've gotten have been surprising. I've heard a lot of women, particularly, say, "I never really thought about it but have always found [same sex] attractive, and I suppose if I found the right person..."

A couple of them have been involved in same sex relationships since and found long term partners, and told me that if someone hadn't outright questioned their acceptance of default, they probably never would have even considered it a possibility.

Anecdata and all, I know, but I really don't think you can reject the effect that social normativity has on people out of hand.
